Daniel (Hebrew: דָּנִיֵּאל, Standard Daniyyel Tiberian Dāniyyêl ;Persian: دانيال, Dâniyal or Danial, also Dani, داني ; Arabic: دانيال, Danyal) is a figure appearing in the Hebrew Bible and the central protagonist of the Book of Daniel. The name "Daniel" means "Judged by El (god)". "Dan" = judge and "i" = a suffix conjugating the verb such that its action applies to the speaker.
